AI is changing investigations far beyond the tools we use. Investigators can process more information, connect more dots and work faster than ever before. At the same time, they operate in an information environment where authentic, manipulated and AI-generated content increasingly coexist. As machines search, filter, summarise and even interpret information for us, another risk emerges: are we slowly outsourcing some of the critical-thinking skills that investigations depend on? And what happens when AI itself relies on an information space deliberately polluted with false narratives? Through real-world examples, this talk explores how AI is changing both the investigator and the investigated environment, why plausible does not mean true, and which human skills become more important, not less, in the age of AI.
